6:00 to 7:00
(Its very important for all families to arrive on time, thank you.)
Join us for this unique fall BCSIS festival as we carry our lanterns into the dark night…
Please meet in the cafeteria for the Lantern Walk Story promptly at 6:00. When the story ends, Phil will instruct the teachers to take their children to the classrooms to light their lanterns. Parents will practice Lantern Walk songs with Erica, then proceed to the outside of their child’s classroom to meet the children and begin the silent, twinkling walk around the field.
Parents, you can help make the event a magical experience for the children:
Turn off your cellphones
Refrain from talking with other parents during the event
Keep all family members with you at all times…including older and younger siblings
Help remind your child to walk in silence during the Lantern Walk
The purpose of our Festivals is very different from the community social events we have at other times of the year. The Festivals are an extension of our curriculum, an opportunity for the children to have a creative, experiential connection with the outdoors.
In order to focus on the wonder and beauty of nature and light, the children and parents will walk in silence with their candles around the field. Then we will gather together in the middle of the field.
After walking in silence around the field, we will make a circle and Erica will lead our community in singing lantern songs. Finishing together in a circle, Erica having led us in song, parents are asked to quietly return with their child, lantern in tow, to cars/homes respecting the stillness and remembering the final words of the Lantern Walk story : “Tonight as we silently carry our lighted lanterns out into the night, may our magical, twinkling procession symbolize carrying our inner light of love and kindness out to warm and illuminate the world.”
Dress VERY WARMLY, in gloves, hat and warm coat. It will be cold… but worth it! If we are comfortable it will be more fun. There will be no food or drink so please remember to eat/drink beforehand.
If you bring other younger or older siblings, please keep your whole family together and participating fully in the festival.
