Lantern Walk

Join us for the K-3 Lantern Walk on November 5th at 5:30 pm.  This long held BCSIS tradition is magical and a special evening not to be missed. We will meet in the cafeteria for a story, join together in song, and bring our lanterns into the night on a silent Lantern Walk under the stars. This year we are also adding a short performance by 3rd grade.

All families and children should meet in the cafeteria by 5:30 sharp for a short performance by 3rd grade followed by a story. After the story, Kindergarten families will walk with their students to their classroom, everyone else will meet their students outside of their classroom doors.

A few things to keep in mind that will help make the event a positive experience for all:

Parents please stay focused on your child. Help supervise positive behavior in the cafeteria.

Please refrain from using your cell phone or talking with other parents during quiet times.

Please dress warmly, it will be chilly.

On the entire walk and the song circle at the end, please stay together as a family. If you have older or younger siblings please keep the whole family together with you.

In music, students have been practicing starting and ending each song with silence, and singing with beautiful, light singing voices. If you practice the songs at home with your kids, please help them remember! Each song will start with a chime signal which you can hear at the beginning of the recordings on the slide show that has all of the lyrics and music.

If you have multiple children in K-2, please feel free to split up and have one adult walk with each child. Or you can pick which class to walk with as a family (for example, walk as a family with your 1st and 3rd grader with the 1st grade class). Either way, just make sure you decide this as a family before the walk; we don’t want children walking alone.

When we set off on the lantern walk, we will be silent, appreciating the stillness of the night. We will meet families outside of the classroom doors after the story and walk around the front of the school and along Aurora. We will make a big circle on the west field and sing the lantern songs (click here for the songs to practice at home!). We will then say goodnight and head home quietly.
